Book synopsis/description:

This book provides a complete pictorial list of plants and flowers mentioned and used by Tagore in his lyrics as enlisted in unabridged edition of 'Gitabitan'(Akhanda Gitabitan). Plants are arranged in this volume in Bengali alphabetical order with English names in parenthesis. A short description of each plant and its floral characters, its use in public welfare, literary and mythological background, if any, and its values in public life have been incorporated in the text in simple style instead of going into serious, weighty scientific names and detailed background. To meet botanical and horticultural curiosities about such families, flowering time and flower color are given in a a tabular form. But the essence of this volume lies in revealing the melody in plants and flowers in Tagore's song compositions and to focus the depth of his knowledge in plant science, his interests on plants and flowers and their masterly use in lyrics.
